Cutie pies.......

Hii Everybody,

I am really sorry for not being so frequent on the blog; though have always kept myself updated from time to time by visiting this place. There are basically two reasons why i have not scribbled anything here.

First and the foremost being a lazy bone, to which most of the people who know me closely, and especially Chix will agree to. The second reason i would like to share with everyone here, coz from what i have seen i have learnt, that this place is more like a close knitted people's forum, who share their thoughts freely; and so i think i can share my anxieties with them. I was apprehensive to pen down any thoughts here because i didn't know what kind of impression will it leave on people but this time around i could not suppress my excitement after i saw the two cutie pies' pics.

They are just choo chweet and adorable that you can not resist your self from loving them and asking for more. I have heard innumerable ancedotes revolving around them, wish could see them in near future, and for now, i raise an appeal on everybody's behalf to Ankit Bhaiya to post more pictures of Aastha and Ananya.

I also wish Bhabhi a very Happy B'day and a blissful year ahead and before i forget also wish Chiku a very happy and rocking belated b'day otherwise he will kill me for not wishing him.

Hope to see some response from the other members. Till then take care and enjoy!!

Ritu.

Chak De India

The last few days have been quite eventful for the Indian Sports. First of all we managed to win the Nehru Gold Cup beating a much highly ranked Syria 1-0 in the final after 12 unsuccessful attempt.....

We are going great guns in the ongoing Hockey Asia Cup and have already reached the semifinal beating Asian champion S. Korea on the way and thrashing SriLanka 20-0 and Thailand 16-0.

And then we have the the ongoing Natwest Series in England......
Am not sure how many of you still continue to watch cricket after the World Cup debacle, but a majority still does......
And the luckier ones must have witnessed the historical cricket match on 5th Sept' 07 @ the historical "The Oval". It was one of the finest show of the Indian famed batting line up and a awesome show of nerve by the gen next.

The solid display of batting was commenced by the greatest opening pair of all time "Sachin" & "Saurav" who now have a record 20 century opening partnership to their name playing in vintage form and was brought to a thrilling climax by Dhoni & Utthappa. And hats off to the temperament shown by Utthappa, specially with the mammoth target, wickets falling all around him and some tight bowling and fielding by the English side, batting at a very unfamiliar position and batting for the first time in this entire series, this guy did something which we are not so famous for. He didn't loose his cool and helped us win a historic match & come back into the series from behind.....

Yuvraj looked like a mighty relieved guy with the win after the kind of pounding he had suffered earlier.... But it really was a moment to saviour, one of the finest run chase we have ever seen.....
The other two I remember are the last Natwest series final ( Kaif & Yuvraj ) and the Asia Cup final in 1998 at Dhaka against Pakistan ( Kanitkar's match of the lifetime ).

Anyway, lets hope that they will carry this momentum into the final match of this series and come out Champions......
Even if they don't , I at least expect them to give a tough fight now to the English side and then we have the upcoming Twenty20 World cup with a fresh looking team......

But, for now its "CHAK DE INDIA" !!!!!

GRAND CONTRADICTION !!

For many years now, girls from the tribal belts of Jharkhand and Orissa have been notable performers in Indian women's hockey. Jyoti Sunita Kullu, Sumarai Tete, Marystella Tirkey, Helen Soy, Adline Kerketta, Ferdina Ekka, Masira Surin, Annarita Kerketta, Binita Toppo, Binita Xess, Asunta Lakra, Suniti Kispotta, Poonam Toppo are some players who have turned out for India with distinction at senior and junior levels.

But in Chak De! India, a brave Bollywood flick that challenges and demolishes several gender stereotypes, Soi Moi Kerketta and Rani Khispotta (screen names) are merely glorified extras reduced to raising a few loutish chuckles. Admittedly it is not possible to flesh out the characters of all players.

But the problem isn't about the length of their roles but the way it has been conceived and the subtext it represents. The movie creates the stereotype of the 'ignorant' tribal. During team registration, one of the tribal girls replies 'Ho ho' (what a laugh, ha, ha) to every question asked. Apparently she doesn't understand either English or Hindi. While there is nothing wrong in not knowing either of the langu-ages, the inaccurate representation ends up reinforcing the stereotype.

The truth is that such players come from the interiors of Jharkhand and Orissa and go to government and missionary schools. By the time they are groomed by Sports Authority of India and become national players, they speak decent Hindi and functional English. They certainly don't say, Happy Diwali, in reply to a good luck greeting. One also wonders why the script doesn't offer any leadership role to the Jharkhand girls.

Especially since India has seen at least two captains from the tribal heartland of Jharkhand and Orissa in recent times: Jyoti Sunita Kullu and Sumarai Tete. Is it because the areas they come from are inconsequential markets that can be given the short shrift even at the cost of ignoring reality?

Is this why the main characters are mapped to suit the more cash-rich, multiplexed areas in the country? And why does a Bengali girl - it is hard to recall when someone from that state played for the national team - finds a place in the squad? Undeniably Chak De! India is a stirring movie. If only it was fair to Jharkhand!
